After Bernini's original a hand carved marble sculpture of Apollo & Daphne. Regarded as one of the artistic marvels of the Baroque age the original was sculpted between 1622-1625 and is displayed at Galleria Borghese, Rome.
This example was carved in Italy in the 1820s, most likely purchased on the Grand Tour. It has been in the same titled Oxfordshire family's ownership since.
Exceptionally carved with exquisite undercutting. In excellent condition.

Paired with an impressive 18th century Portland Stone panelled plinth from the 2023 Robert Kime sale.
