Pair of Greek Vases or 'Garnkirk Urns’ by George Mossman and Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson for the Garnkirk Pottery, circa 1851.
These are one of two pairs of vases exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851.
Egyptian nuptial vases - these figures in basso relievo - represent the various stages of a wedding ceremony. The figures were drawn by Mr George Mossman, the ornaments designed by Mr Steele and the vases itself by Mr Thomson of Messrs Baird and Thomson in London 1851.
Provenance – gifted to the previous owner, the great grandfather who was the chauffeur to Mr Dixon of Govan Ironworks, known as Dixon Blazes in the 1920’s.
