The Coalbrookdale Company was founded in 1709 and expanded rapidly to meet the demand for its castings and forgings. Additional furnaces were established around Shropshire and by 1750 the company was the largest in England.
Coalbrookdale had a number of cast iron garden seats in its catalogues from the 1830s onwards.
